Wonderful Croatian Islands, Waterfalls and Spectacular Beauty

On the first day of our tour, we will depart from Dugi Otok. Dugi Otok is a beautiful island, especially popular with those looking for peace, relaxation, and superb nature. Located in the Zadar archipelago in Croatia, it is the largest island in Northern Dalmatia. It is well-known for Sakarun Beach in the north and the impressive Telascica Nature Park with magnificent high cliffs in the south. On Dugi Otok, there are 12 quaint villages with approximately 1,500 inhabitants. It is a charming place with dreamlike natural scenery as well as many breathtaking and idyllic beaches. While exploring, we will visit Dugi Otok's Pantera Bay, which resembles a lagoon and is a popular area for Blue Cruise tours. Located on the north side of Dugi Otok, it is the perfect area to enjoy a relaxing evening under the stars while listening to the soothing sound of the sea waves and the cicadas in the trees. The bay is sheltered and well protected from winds and is in the immediate vicinity of one of the Adriatic’s most beautiful lighthouses and a shipwreck site, which intrigues visitors and divers alike.

Continuing on with our tour of Dugi Otok, we will visit Dugi Otok's Sali. This lovely area is the largest settlement on the island, which stretches over two bays. It is located on the north-eastern coast of the island and is very well established in terms of tourism due to its excursions, sailing, and sports amenities. Tour members can find facilities such as a doctor's office, a post office, a cash machine, several shops, and a reading room where visitors can borrow a wide variety of books in several different languages. Showcasing its impressive thousand-year-old olive groves, this region represents a unique ecological area. As many of the locals are still diligent olive growers, Saljsko Polje is an important horticultural facility on the coast that has been declared a botanic reserve. It's a wonderful place to visit and be at one with nature. The destination is an ideal place to spend a relaxing day or a day of exploring. The cultural heritage of Sali can be seen within sacred buildings such as the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is home to a wooden altar from the 17th century and inscriptions written in Glagolitic, as well as the churches of St. Roch and St. Nicholas. There are also remains &nbsp;of other Christian churches in the fields of Sali.

Today's adventure will guide us from Dugi Otok to Kornati National Park. Our first stop for today will take us to Telascica Bay (Telascica Natural Park) on the southern part of Dugi Otok. It is referred to by many as one of the safest, most beautiful, and largest natural ports in the Adriatic. This bay is well known for its coves, several small islands, and magnificent cliffs, all of which lie on a 69-kilometer indented coastline. There is a variety of thriving vegetation and animals to discover here. Over 400 plant species, as well as numerous rare and endemic plants, have been found here, along with a fascinating underwater world of 250 plants and 300 animal organisms, including the endangered red coral and the carnivorous sponge. Other animals that you may see include crabs, sea urchins, small and larger fish varieties, falcons, and sometimes even dolphins. Moving on, we will now visit Kornati National Park, which is a collection of approximately 89 islands and islets, creating a labyrinth that is perfect for sailing. The tour members will witness a nautical paradise with breathtaking scenery, nature, and beauty. There are no harbors within the vicinity because it is a national park and the islands are not populated, so there was never a demand to build one. However, there are many bays where the sea is so pristine that the sea bed can be seen clearly. One of the most popular sights in this area are the vertical Krune cliffs that face the open sea. Many adrenaline sport lovers visit them to partake in cliff jumping. Alongside the natural beauty and clear waters, Kornati is home to several rare animal species, which can sometimes be seen when snorkeling or diving.

We will now sail from Kornati National Park to Vodice. Vodice is a beautiful coastal town that lies on the Sibenik Riviera. Strolling along the picturesque promenade, tour members will discover many restaurants, bars, and cafes where you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and a wonderful view of the sea. The old town, together with the marina, creates a wonderful tourist center, and a 4-kilometer-long promenade connects the town center to beaches and various settlements. There is always something going on, whether it be lively festivals, entertaining street artists, or beach parties. However there are also many quiet spots away from the crowds to spend some time relaxing or admiring the charming Dalmatian architecture. There are many attractions to find here, such as churches, interesting stone alleyways, the picturesque waterfront promenade, pretty squares with taverns, the fabulous marina, and, of course, many spectacular beaches. Some of the most popular sights to visit include the baroque parish church of Svetog Kriza, built in 1746, the Coric tower from 1646, and the Sveti Kriz. The most popular beaches in Vodice include the main beach of Male Vrulje, also known as Plaza Hangar, and the blue-flagged beach of Plava Plaza, which showcases pristine waters and a unique landscape.

Today's journey will lead us from Vodice to Skradin. The small town of Skradin is situated in a protected bay on the Krka River, where freshwater mixes with salt water from the Adriatic Sea. The most popular attractions here for tour members to explore are the picturesque harbor and the enchanting old town. Skradin is also referred to as the gateway to Krka National Park, which showcases a wonderful natural landscape and breathtaking waterfalls. The final location on today's tour is Skradinski Buk, which is home to the seventh and longest travertine barrier on the Krka River. This location is truly one of the most unusual and beautiful landscapes in Krka National Park. Here, tour members can witness Skradinski Buk's 800-meter-long cascade, which descends almost 46 meters before meeting the lower lake. Upon arrival a 1900-meter educational walking trail leads visitors around the breathtaking waterfalls. The former watermills have been converted into craft workshops, souvenir stores, exhibit spaces where ethnographic collections can be enjoyed, and restaurants. The remnants of the Krka hydroelectric plant from 1895 can also still be seen; it was the first to provide electrical energy to light up a city. This is a protected area so please be aware that swimming here is not allowed.

Today's adventure will take us from Skradin to Murter Island. Murter Island is a wonderful location, home to the four towns of Murter, Betina, Tisno, and Jezera. It is connected to the mainland by a drawbridge that passes through the town of Tinso. This destination showcases an abundance of beauty in its clear waters, old olive trees, impressive climate, pine-scented forests, and hidden, secluded coves. The area's main source of income is tourism, but it also has thriving fishing, agricultural, and construction communities. There are many small, spectacular beaches and bays to explore all around the island, with Slanica, Podvrske, and Cigrada Beach being the most popular. Murter is the largest and oldest town, located on the island's northwestern side. It was once known as Veliko Selo, meaning ‘the big city’. The beautiful town is a popular and highly admired holiday destination, enclosed by several large hills, with the highest peak being Raduc, which is 128 meters tall. Several attractions can be discovered on the island, including various historic sites dating back to ancient Roman times, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, and the fascinating Betina Museum of Wooden Shipbuilding. Throughout its history, Murter has evolved while continuing to maintain its values and standards of culture, traditions, and spirituality. Narrow stone streets and stone walls covered with ivy plants have preserved the historic feel.

The tour for today will lead us from Murter Island to Zadar. Zadar is a historic town home to many Roman ruins, medieval churches, and wonderful museums. On our tour of Zadar, members will see many magnificent sights such as the Zadar Roman Forum, believed to have been constructed between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD. It was once the heart of religious life, with the Church of St. Donat dominating one side. Here tour members can witness the ruins of temples, a Roman column, altars, and hollows that were used during sacrificial deaths. Within Zadar’s Old Town, Croatian history and modern creations can be seen on every corner. On the western corner of the peninsula, we will visit Zadar's outstanding Sea Organ. Created by a local architect, this experimental musical attraction is situated under marble stairs that go down into the sea. It has a system of pipes and whistles that create sounds from the sea's waves and air pressure. The architect also created a wonderful spot to watch the sun go down. The Greeting to the Sun is one of Zadar's most popular attractions. The 22-meter-wide circle lies on the pavement, filled with 300 multilayered glass plates that collect the sun’s energy during the day, producing a magical light show at sunset, fulfilling the aim of simulating the solar system.

Our tour will conclude in the unique city of Zadar. Referred to as an atmospheric time machine and described as an open-air museum, it showcases the brilliant architecture and cultural heritage of the eastern Adriatic coast. This fabulous city was once the capital of Dalmatia. It is full of romance and spirit, home to a friendly community and modern creations that are full of diversity. Within Zadar, there's lots to see and experience, including exploring Zadar's central square, witnessing fascinating art, and visiting optical illusion museums, churches, and historical locations. As for its nightlife, many relaxed and humble venues can be found. The winding ancient streets of the Old Town are full of bars and restaurants, all showcasing incredible views of the Adriatic Sea. For those who prefer something more livelier, nightclubs can be found on the eastern side of the Old Town.
