National Parks, Ancient Cities, and Pleasing Croatian Monuments 

Our tour will start in Pula. With approximately 60,000 permanent residents, Pula is the largest city in Istria, where history, nature, and spectacular beaches can be found at every turn. When exploring Pula’s ancient city, there are many attractions to visit. The main attraction here is the Pula Amphitheatre, also referred to as the Arena of Pula, which once held up to 26,000 spectators. Here, tour members can witness an abundance of history and walk in the footsteps of past gladiators. Other fascinating attractions include Forum Square, also known as Republic Square, which has a charming and friendly atmosphere. The historic monument of the 8-meter-high Triumphal Arch, also known as the Triumphal Arch of Sergius, The Fortress Kastel, which dates back to the early 17th century and is located on the highest hill in the city, offering fantastic views of the historic center. In regards to religious buildings, many can be found, such as the Temple of Augustus, the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary, Sveti Antun Church, and the Franciscan Monastery, to name a few. For those of you who wish to take some time to relax, just outside the city center is where the most beautiful beaches can be found. Hawaii Beach is one of the most popular and portrays an almost Caribbean feeling with beautiful rock formations and clear turquoise waters.

Today's tour will take us from Pula to Veli Brijun Island. The Brijuni Islands are a collection of fourteen islands and islets in Istria, separated from the Istrian mainland by the Fazana Channel. Here we will visit the Veli Brijun Island which is the largest and most popular; there are many things to see and do here, along with many historical sites to explore. The archipelago was a favored seaside resort in the 1900s; however, after World War II, it became the private residence of President Tito. After his death, the archipelago was reopened to visitors. Some places and attractions that can be seen are a golf course, a theater, a safari park, the remains of Roman villas, an archaeological museum, churches, and a permanent exhibition dedicated to President Tito where artifacts and photos can be seen. The area showcases a harmonious landscape of nature and thriving parks with important remains of its architectural heritage. Moving on, we will now discover Brijuni National Park, known as the place for luxury accommodation since Roman times. It is a paradise and a reflection of the harmony that has been created between man, animal, and plant life. There are approximately 700 plant species and about 250 bird species on the islands, along with traces of dinosaurs. Within this green oasis, many types of vegetation can be admired, such as old oak trees, olive trees, pine trees, cedars, marine poppy, and wild cucumber. Many animals can also be found here, such as fallow deer, pheasants, squirrels, insects, reptiles, and birds. It is a beautiful place with many natural treasures to witness and should not be missed when visiting Croatia.

Today's tour will lead us from Veli Brijun Island to Unije Island. Unije Island is small with a population of less than 100 people. Its name derives from the Greek word (he)neios, meaning field. Due to its geographical position, water springs, and fertile ground, Unije has been populated since ancient times. The island is completely car-free, providing a safe and peaceful environment away from noise and busy crowds of tourists. The best way to explore the island is on foot or by hiring a bicycle. Although there are not any big attractions or shopping centers, tour members can explore the town and the rest of Unije or relax at one of the wonderful bays or beaches. A few locations worth visiting include the remains of a Roman villa, the Church of St Andrew, which was originally built in the 15th century, and Vnetak Lighthouse, built in 1873. There is a network of hiking paths and walking trails that lead all around the island, offering &nbsp;beautiful views of the coves on the eastern side of the island and the magnificent rocky cliffs on the western side. The glistening blue sea waters, wonderful natural beaches, and aromas of aromatic herbs in the air provide a paradise for those who want to escape from civilization. Moving on we will now visit Unije Island’s Maracol Bay which is a picturesque destination showcasing turquoise waters, a variety of marine life, and thriving pine-scented forests. The area is only accessible by boat and is untouched by mass tourism. It offers an environment filled with tranquilly and natural beauty and is a wonderful location for those who enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

Today we will travel from Unije Island to Premuda Island. Premuda Island is located on the southwest coast of Silba measuring just 9 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide. It is a popular stop for boaters due to its system of caves known as the cathedral, where the protected site of a sunken dreadnought belonging to the Austro-Hungarian Navy can be seen. It is surrounded by islets and cliffs that protect the island from strong winds and vegetation such as holm oak and olive trees. Very few people reside here, but those who do concentrate on fishing, sheep breeding, or tourism. Its beautiful natural coves, clear sea waters, and underwater sights attract sailors and divers, especially during the summer months. A few amenities can be found here, such as two ports, two restaurants, two shops, a post office, and a church. We will now visit the San Ciriaco Chapel which is located on the harbor in Premuda Island. Also known as the Church of St. Krijal, it is a symbol of the Catholic religious beliefs of the local people and a significant historical landmark. The chapel portrays rustic architecture surrounded by natural beauty. Its design was influenced by the Tuscan architectural style of the 16th century, and uniqueness provides a wonderful location for photography.

Today's adventure will guide us from Premuda Island to Dugi Otok. Dugi Otok is known for its relaxing ambiance, vineyards, and orchards. Here, the spectacular Saharun Beach can also be found. Often referred to as having Caribbean characteristics, this beach has a breathtaking combination of white sand and crystal-clear waters, surrounded by scented pine trees, making it perfect for those looking for a chilled-out morning. We will now stop at Dugi Otok’s Sakarun Bay. Here, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic can be seen; the white sandy beach of Sakarun. The sea is clear, the waters are shallow, and the beach is spacious and surrounded by a fragrant pine forest. Continuing on with our tour, we will now visit Telascica Bay (Telascica Natural Park) in the southern part of Dugi Otok. It is referred to by many as one of the safest, most beautiful, and largest natural ports in the Adriatic. This bay is well known for its coves, several small islands, and magnificent cliffs, all of which lie on a 69-kilometer indented coastline. Over 400 plant species, as well as numerous rare and endemic plants, have been found here, along with a fascinating underwater world of 250 plants and 300 animal organisms, including the endangered red coral and the carnivorous sponge.

On today's journey we will sail from Dugi Otok to Silba Island. Silba Island is the only settlement on the island, which is also called Silba. This car-free zone portrays elegance and features old captain's houses that tell stories of the island's rich heritage. The town is full of lovely courtyards, high walls, and religious churches, making it a hotspot for those looking for a charming destination. Although there are no historical monuments to explore, some attractions that can be explored include the local committee building and library and the Gallery of Marija Ujevic-Galetovic, which is an open-air art gallery of a local artist. As for beaches, there are numerous coves and beaches to discover, with the most popular being the main public beach of Sutorisce. The final location on today's tour will lead us to the impressive Tower of Love, also known as Toreta or the Marinic Tower, that rises from the center of the island. It is believed that Petar Marinic, a young sailor, was deeply in love with a woman named Antonija Mauro. Before setting off on a journey, Petar promised Antonija that upon his return, they would marry. His trip took much longer than expected, taking a toll on Antonija, who went on to marry another man. When Peter returned he was greeted by Antonija’s daughter, Domenika Rasol, who captured his heart. He waited two decades, watching Domenika turn into a beautiful woman, and fulfilled his promise to construct the tower. Although there was an age difference of thirty years, their bond was strong. They went on to have nine children which is a testament to their deep love and commitment. The high hexagonal tower with spiral staircase is approximately 15 meters in height, showcasing magnificent views and a memory of unforgettable love.

The final day of the tour will guide us from Silba Island to Pula. The city of Pula is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Istria. It is also one of the oldest cities in Croatia, with its history dating back to the Neolithic Age. When exploring this wonderful place, tour members can find countless attractions, such as the charming old town, ancient temples, ancient buildings, regional markets, the Pula Aquarium, and the Pula Sea Cave. One site not to be missed is the Pula Arena which is the most important landmark within the city.&nbsp;Pula is a working port, and a gateway to the Adriatic, at night be sure not to miss the Lighting Giants show which features eight towering cranes illuminated in fabulous colors, lasting for approximately 90 minutes. As for nightlife, there are many venues to choose from, ranging from restaurants to cozy cafes and lively bars.
