The museum first opened its doors in 2008 and has since become a must-visit attraction for travelers seeking a unique perspective on ancient Greek civilization. It was founded by Kostas Kotsanas, a passionate collector and expert in ancient Greek technology, with the aim of preserving and showcasing some of the most important inventions and discoveries of the ancient Greeks.
About the Museum Experience
The Museum of Ancient Greek Technology is a quaint 1-room operation located at the entrance of Katakolon near the train station and about 500 meters from the marina. The exhibitions are made up of miniatures with explanations as well as working models of inventions from the ancient Greeks dating from 2000 BCE to 100 AD. There is audio-visual support for visitors who are hearing or visually impaired. All displays have explanations in both Greek and English, and the museum curator demonstrates the operation of many of the machines.

The museum boasts a remarkable collection of functioning replicas of ancient Greek machinery and inventions. From automated theatrical stages to ingenious mechanical toys, visitors have the opportunity to interact with and observe these ancient technologies up-close. Highlights include the alarm clock of Plato, the Antikythera Mechanism, which is considered to be the first portable calculator, history’s first operating robot, and more.
