Turquoise Aegean Waters, and Wonderful Cyclades Islands

Athens is the capital and largest city within Greece, named after the goddess Athena. Tour members will depart at 4:00 pm. from Athens. It is often referred to as an open-air museum, showcasing ancient history, magnificent natural treasures, and a vibrant nightlife. The city is also known for its many luxurious marinas, stunning gardens, shopping centers, and extensive range of water sports. There are many stunning beach and bay areas on the southern and northeastern sides of the city's coastline, along with many historic attractions to explore. Kea Island will be our next destination for today, and lies within close proximity to Athens. Although it is part of the Cyclades, it doesn't portray the characteristics of a typical Cycladic island. Kea showcases traditional whitewashed houses, long-established farmhouses and tile-roofed buildings which use earthy tones. The island is full of rare plant species and wild animals, such as birds and reptiles, making it the perfect destination for nature lovers. Within the Islands capital of Ioulida, tour members can enjoy a relaxing car free zone, traditional architecture, a Medieval Castle and an Archaeological Museum. Other beautiful villages located on the island include Vourkari, Korissia, and Otzias. As for the beaches, some are organized, such as Gialiskari, Koundouros ,and Korissia, while others are secluded and completely unspoiled by mass tourism.

Today's journey will take us from Kea Island to Andros Island. &nbsp;Andros Island is the northernmost island of the Cyclades island group. It stands out due to its thriving vegetation and scenic natural landscapes. Even though it is within close proximity to Athens, this island has not seen too many changes in regards to mass tourism, maintaining its laid-back and unspoiled atmoshpere. The capital town of Chora portrays a mixture of Venetian, Byzantine and Ottoman architecture where large mansions and neoclassical buildings can be seen. As for its beaches there are many to choose from with the most popular being Agios Petros, Batsi and Golden Sand Beach. There are also some interesting sites to visit such as Palaiopolis and the ancient capital of Andros, along with museums such as the Museum of Modern Art, archaeological museums and the Cyclades Olive Museum.

We will now travel from Andros Island to Tinos Island. Tinos island is a very spiritual place and described by many as extremely calming. There are many religious attractions to explore such as the Panagia Megalochari Church, which is one of the most visited religious pilgrimages in Greece. Scattered along the mountain side are many small villages including Pyrgos, Ktikado, Kardiani, Loutra and Tripotamos, where tour members can witness wonderful architecture, local delicacies, a friendly atmosphere and many lush sycamore trees. Within the island we will visit the small fishing village of Panormos, well known for its old lighthouse, &nbsp;the Stalactite Cave of Panormos, fish tavernas, and lovely waterfront, overlooking the picturesque cove and small harbor.

Today we will travel from Tinos Island to Amorgos Island. Amorgos Island is a quiet place untouched by mass tourism; it is a perfect location for privacy and tranquility. The island boasts a spectacular landscape, Cycladic architecture, mysterious caves, and fabulous beaches. The island’s capital of Chora is located in the center of the island, enclosed by rocky hills and a scenic setting. Here tour participants will see traditional whitewashed houses with colorful shutters, narrow alleys, embellished with flowers, a Venetian Castle and churches. This hidden gem also has many taverns to enjoy and wonderful beaches with crystal clear waters to explore such as Mouros and Nikouria. We will now travel to Donoussa Island which lies in the western Aegean Sea, between the islands of Naxos and Amorgos. This island is very distinctive and has so much beauty on offer. The island's capital town of Stavros is lively yet relaxing where many taverns, cafes, restaurants, shops and other tourist facilities can be found. There are also many smaller villages to explore and many unspoilt beaches to discover. Our day today will conclude at Katapola which is the main port of Amorgos and one of the more popular seaside villages of this island. The village is set within a large bay where some ancient remains of the Cretan city of Minoan and a Mycenaean cemetery can be seen. There is also a lovely sandy beach and a variety of cafes and taverns to enjoy.

Today we will sail from Amorgos Island to Kythnos Island.Kythnos Island is situated a short distance from the Greek capital, and is one of the most popular city-break destinations. It is home to several quaint villages including Driopida, Loutra and the island's capital of Chora, which stand out due to their elegant architecture, narrow alleys, colorful flowers, windmills and easy-going atmosphere. Loutra is well loved by many as it has thermal springs that are rich in iron and sulfur, and these minerals are believed to have healing properties. The island's scenic coastline is scattered with many beaches from sandy to pebbled and crowded to secluded, all of which are perfect for swimming.

The journey will now continue on from Kythnos Island to Irakleia Island. &nbsp;Irakleia Island is described as a paradise by its visitors, due to its calm and secluded location and laid back atmoshphere. Within this island there are two small villages to explore; Panagia, which is located in the center of the island, and Agios Georgios, which serves as the main port. Both of these unique areas showcase traditional architecture, however Agios Georgios is more developed in terms of tourism. Many beaches can be found along this Little Cyclades island's coastline, some are easily accessible by foot whilst others require a trek through the island's scenic hiking trails.

Continuing on, we will travel from Iraklia Island to Santorini Island. Santorini Island is the most popular of the Greek Islands and regularly visited during the summer months. Within the 17th century B.C. the island was reshaped, after a large volcanic eruption occurred causing the magnificent caldera. There are many fascinating sites to discover on the island including its spectacular landscape, red and black volcanic beaches, a volcanic creator and dramatic sea views. Tour members can find many gourmet restaurants, Cycladic architecture, and rocky landscapes and it is also a wonderful place to watch the sunset. Whilst exploring Santorini Island we will visit Vlychada Marina, the picturesque round harbor is popular amongst small sailboats, speed boats and fishing boats. This area is also favored for its black sandy beach complete with unique land formations that have been carved by the wind and rain.

Today we will spend the day at Santorini Island, which is the most popular of the Greek Islands and thriving with tourism during the summer months. Folegandros Island is most definitely one of the most picturesque out of all the Cyclades islands due to its wild landscape and tranquil atmosphere. Like many of the islands it is rich in tiny whitewashed houses, narrow alleys, colorful windows and doors, and blue-domed churches. In the capital of Chora a beautiful whitewashed Panagia church, which is the trademark of the island can be seen. From here tour members can enjoy the breathtaking views of the shimmering Aegean Sea and watch the magnificent sunset or visit the Venetian quarter which is the oldest place on the island. For our sun seekers there are several beaches available such as Agali and Ambeli, which have crystal clear waters that are perfect for swimming. Within Folegandros Island we will visit Karavostasi Village. Here, tour members can find a range of tourist amenities such as supermarkets, bakeries and cozy tavernas. The village is also within close proximity to several splendid beaches.

Today we will sail from Folegandros Island to Milos Island. Milos Island is known as one of the most exotic and laid-back Greek islands. It stands out from the rest due to its alluring ambiance, rich history, charming fishing villages, delicious food, and indigo bays. Along with its enchanting beauty it is particularly famous for its caves and beaches, especially the spectacular Sarakiniko Beach. This beach has a lunar landscape, consisting of white volcanic rock formations and crystal clear turquoise waters. Along with Sarakiniko Beach, Milos has over 40 beautiful exotic beaches for tour members to choose from.

Today's adventure will take us from Milos Island to Sifnos Island. Sifnos Island consists of over 300 cubic whitewashed houses, traditional churches, and little shops boasting its authentic Cycladic architecture. The island is described by many as having a fairytale charm that makes it feel like it’s worlds away from the mainland. It is most famous for its gastronomy, home to the famous Greek chef Nikolaos Tselementes and many excellent restaurants serving local recipes, such as capper salad, chickpea soup, and mastelo. Tour members can also visit the island's unique villages and the capital town of Apollonia, explore the narrow alleyways of Kastro, or taste the best local pastries in Artemonas. The beaches on this island are fabulous and there are several located on the island such as Chrisopigi Beach, Sifnos Island / Platis Gialos, Vathi Beach and Sifnos Island / Kamares.

Today we will travel from Sifnos Island to Antiparos Island. Antiparos Island is part of the Cyclades group in the middle of the Aegean Sea, situated 1.9 kilometers from the more well known Paros Island. It is known for its Cycladic beauty and 57-kilometer-long shoreline, filled with crystal-clear waters, golden sandy beaches, and the Antiparos Cave on Ayios Ioannis Hill. The main town is also called Antiparos, which is built around a 15th century Venetian castle. Narrow cobbled streets full of whitewashed houses, vibrant bougainvillea, and exhibits from the Historical and Folklore Museum of Antiparos assist in showcasing its enchanting ambiance. For tour members wishing to spend some time on land, hiking, cycling, along with water-based activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, and kite surfing are perfect ways to experience the destination.

On today's tour we will be traveling from Antiparos Island to Paros Island. Paros Island lies at the center of the Cyclades island group. Traditional features, Cycladic architecture, spectacular beaches, historical monuments, quaint villages and a beautiful 120 kilometer long coastline can all be seen. Many restaurants, bars, and traditional taverns can also be found but the star of this island is its magical beaches. Within Paros Island, Naoussa can be found. This picturesque fishing village lies within a large bay on the northern part of the island, built around a port where local fishing boats moor. As one of the more lively places on the island there are a variety of restaurants to enjoy, remains of a Venetian castle to explore, and churches to discover such as the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin and the Church of Agios Nikolaos. The area is also famous for its wonderful golden beaches, including Kolymbithres, Agioi Anargyri, Monastiri, and many more.

On the final day, we will continue with our tour of Paros Island. Here within Paros Island we will visit Parikia, which is located to the west, approximately 190 kilometers southeast of Athens. There are many things to do and see here such as visiting Parikia’s main attraction of its Church of 100 Doors, shopping within the old town's marketplace, visiting The Archeological Museum of Paros and Petra Farm or watching the famous colorful sunsets. There are also wonderful beaches to visit, with the most popular being Parikia Beach, Livadia Beach, and Delfini Beach. Many lively bars, restaurants and quiet cocktail bars can also be found here.
