Captivating Greek Islands and Transparent Ionian Waters.

Palairos is a charming town and bay area, on the west coast of mainland Greece. It is famous for its beaches, archaeological sites, sporting activities, architecture, and relaxation. The well organized town has a fabulous natural landscape with many things to see and do. Palairos was once a city of ancient Greece, situated on the southern side of the region of Epirus, and is believed to have existed since the Mycenaean period. Known as Zaverda until 1928, it was once one of the most important ports in the region. Today, it lies high up in the mountains, overlooking the magnificent Ionian Sea and wonderful Lake Vourkaria. There are many important attractions to admire within this ancient town, including the castle of Kehropoula, the castle of Grivas, the church of St. Demetrios, the Venetian castle of Agios Georgios, which dates back to the 17th century, and the monastery of Panagia Romvi, which was built 100 years after the fall of Constantinople. As for its beaches, there are many, all showcasing golden sand and pristine waters, such as Vathiavali, Potamaki, Agios Dimitrios, Agios Ioannis, and Palairos Beach, to name a few. Tour members can also enjoy a leisurely walk down the cobbled alleyways where authentic taverns, cafes, and beautiful houses such as the imposing manor of Ragos can be seen. Our tour will depart at 4:00 p.m. from the picturesque harbor of Palairos. Its geographical position and close proximity to popular destinations provides the perfect starting point for our adventure ahead.

Today's journey will lead us from Plairos to Lefkada Island. Lefkada Island is also known as the ‘Caribbean of Greece’ due to its alluring atmosphere and impressive landscape. Its beaches are famous due to their sandy, shingle textures and hypnotic turquoise waters, all of which are surrounded by wonderful nature and dramatic cliffs. The most popular include Porto Katsiki, Egremni, and Kathisma; however, there are more secluded shores to discover, such as Mylos, Kalamitsi, and Kaminia. Along with its beaches, there are several quaint seaside villages to explore, such as Nidri and Agios Nikitas. The heart of the island is Lefkada town. Here, tour members can wander around the narrow streets and taste local delicacies, along with visiting the Venetian Agia Mavra Castle, museums, and 18th-century churches. Other important landmarks worth visiting include the lighthouse, the wonderful Faneromeni monastery, and Melissa Gorge. While exploring the island, tour members will have the opportunity to visit Lefkada Island / Sivota. Located 32 kilometers south from the capital town, it is one of the most spectacular bays, due to its magnificent hills, thriving greenery, and crystal-clear waters, all of which provide safe shelter for boaters and yachtsmen. Although it is the most popular resort within Lefkada, it has a calm and relaxing atmosphere where many spend their days enjoying the tranquility of Sivota’s only beach. The town becomes livelier at night, where several taverns, restaurants, and a variety of bars can be found.

Today's tour will guide us from Lefkada Island to Ithaca Island. Ithaca Island is world-famous for being the home of Odysseus. This iconic island is surrounded by thriving Mediterranean greenery, charming villages, and magnificent beaches. On the island, there are several relaxing yet popular beaches to enjoy, including Filiatro, Sarakiniko, and Agios Ioannis, and more secluded locations to discover, such as Gidaki Beach. Along with the villages and beaches, some other popular attractions include Loizos Cave and Katharon Monastery. While exploring Ithaca, tour members will have the opportunity to visit Ithaca Island’s Kioni village. This picturesque village is one of the most beautiful within the Ionian Sea, surrounded by thriving green hills and crystal clear waters. It was built amphitheatrical on the slopes of a mountain by the inhabitants who once lived &nbsp;in the mountainous village of Anogi at the end of the 16th century. Unfortunately, due to a devastating earthquake in 1953, many of the original buildings were destroyed, but the few that remain showcase fascinating Renaissance architecture. Today, this small yet charming place has rapidly grown, becoming a more modern tourist destination where wonderful tiled-roofed houses overlook a variety of cafes, taverns, three interesting windmills, and the lovely port area where a wide variety of boats can be admired. There are a few historical attractions that are worth visiting here, such as a small church that was once home to St. Nicholas’s monastery in the 19th century, the church of Evangelistria, and the church of Agios Ioannis. As for beaches, there are several to choose from, including Katsikouli, Sarakinari, Plakoutses, and Filiatro, all of which are perfect locations for relaxing and swimming.

Continuing on with our tour of Ithaca Island. Tour members will have the opportunity to visit Vathi (Ithaca Island) which is the capital and one of the most attractive villages on the island, maintaining its traditional integrity despite its developments in tourism. It dates back to 1500 AD, with lots of Venetian influence, from the architectural design of the buildings to the stone-paved alleyways. It is the most popular place to visit and is the hive of most of the island's activity. One of the most significant sights here is the Monument to the Sailor, a large iron anchor on a marble base that is a token of the seamanship of Ithaca from the past to the present. Honoring nautical schools, martimate trade, and sailors that lost their lives at sea. At the town's square, a statue depicting Odysseus in two forms can be seen, paying tribute to the Homeric hero in his supreme form. Other sites worth visiting include the stunning houses of G. Karavias and G. Drakoulis, who were once one of the wealthiest families in the town; the church of Agios Georgios; the cathedral, which is dedicated to the Presentation of the Virgin; and the Archaeological Museum. On the island, there are several relaxing yet popular beaches to enjoy, such as Filiatro, Sarakiniko, and Loutsa, and more secluded locations to discover, including Gidaki Beach. The nightlife here has a chilled vibe, offering good food, a variety of bars and entertainment, and friendly locals.

Today's journey will take us from Ithaca Island to Kalamos Island. Kalamos Island has a surface area of approximately 20 square kilometers. It is home to many mountains, with the largest being about 200 meters high. With only 600 people living on the island all year round, the most populated area is by the port on the eastern side of the island. This unspoiled Greek paradise is the perfect destination for those looking to experience authentic Greek ways of life. There are not any big attractions here; however, nature, natural treasures, and spectacular scenery can be found in abundance. The island is covered in pebbled beach areas, several magical caves, coves, plants, and thriving Mediterranean pine trees. Within close proximity to the port area, the beaches of Myrtia and Asproviali can be found; in the southern part lie the beaches of Agriapidia and Pefkoi; and on the western side, Kefali, Kedros, Alexaki, Kipoi, and Trachilos can be discovered, along with supermarkets, taverns, and several bars. A significant place to visit whilst exploring Kalamos is Cape Kafali, which can be found on the southernmost part of the island. It is famous for its peach farming which is a very important local product for this island's economy. Kalamos’s villages are relatively quiet as there are no cars on this island, and although there are not any big attractions here, Kalamos is a rare example of perfection in regards to its Greek landscape. Tour members can tour this island by bicycle or on foot to explore houses, abandoned windmills, and the abundance of beauty and nature that lies here.

Today's adventure will guide us from Kalamos Island to Meganisi Island. Meganisi Island is surrounded by thriving Mediterranean greenery and crystal-clear waters. The best way to explore this isolated location is on foot, as there are no public transportation amenities. Although there isn't much in terms of sightseeing or big attractions, there are several wonderful chapels and an abundance of nature to admire. As for its beaches, there are several that can be found, such as Agios Ioannis, Spilia, Barbarezou, and Fanari, along with many secret coves, all of which are wonderful locations to swim and snorkel. Continuing on with our journey, tour members will now have the opportunity to visit Meganisi Island / Port Atheni. This bay area is situated on the north-east side of the island, enclosed by plump olive trees. Although it can sometimes be busy during the day from passing yachts, it becomes extremely peaceful at night. Amenities and facilities are limited here; however, a tavern, a cafe, and a mini market can be found. For tour members wishing to explore, a steep 30-minute walk up from the quay leads to the village of Katomeri, which is the highest point on the island, where fresh bread and a few more provisions are avaliable.

Today's tour will take us from Meganisi Island to Palairos. &nbsp;Before concluding our day at Palairos we will visit Abelike Bay. &nbsp;The bay lies on the northeastern side of Meganisi and is most definitely one of the most beautiful hidden treasures within Greece. Here, tour members can enjoy a day of complete relaxation away from the more livelier villages that we have previously visited. The bay is completely unspoiled, with only two taverns and a peaceful and calm atmosphere. Although there are no sightseeing attractions or tourist amenities, this area is a paradise for swimmers, snorkelers, and nature lovers. This untouched oasis is the perfect location for enjoying a few hours of peace and tranquility, before returning back to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. On arrival to Palairos tour members will have the opportunity to enjoy the authentic Greek taverns that can be found here or take a walk to discover what this town has on offer.

On the final day of our journey, tour members can explore Palairos in more detail. Along with admiring the breathtaking, serene vistas and transparent Ionian waters, tour participants can partake in several different activities and explore many historical sites. If you're looking for a relaxing day, there are many spectacular beaches to visit, including Vathiavali, Palairos Beach, Agios Ioannis, and Varko. For our history lovers, the most popular and preserved sites include the castle of Kechropoula, the Venetian castle of Plagia, the manor house of Rangos, and the monastery of the holy Agios Dimitrios, to name a few. For those wishing to partake in sporting activities on land, the outskirts of the town are referred to by many as a paradise for hiking and cycling. When choosing a solo or organized activity, be sure to pick the right level of difficulty to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. The most popular activities on offer here are watersports. From diving to windsurfing, this area has excellent conditions for water-based activities due to the wonderful combination of the transparent waters and the surrounding Arcananian Mountains. Even though Palairos welcomes many visitors each year, the town's traditions still shine through, from its relaxed ways of life to its authentic Greek taverns.
