Popular Yacht Charter

Agathonisi, also known as Gaidero, is a small Greek island in the stunning Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It is a barren place with an alluringly secluded aura and a slow pace of life. There are many beaches and historic sites which visitors can enjoy when they aren’t mingling with locals in laid-back tavernas. The main villages are Megalo Chorio and Mikro Chorio with the small settlement of Agios Georgios between them. Agios Georgios is home to the island's only port and has the bulk of the island’s hotels and restaurants. With its unspoiled natural beauty, pristine beaches, and fewer than 200 permanent residents, Agathonisi offers an unforgettable experience.

Anchorage Information

Agathonisi offers several anchorage points that are perfect for yachts of all sizes. The most popular anchorage is at Agios Georgios, where the port is located. The bay provides excellent all-around protection and adequate depths for anchoring. It has a large south-facing pier, sheltering boats from the strong northern winds. The seabed consists of sand and offers secure holding, ensuring a peaceful and safe overnight stay for yachtsmen. The port provides good facilities, including fuel refilling stations, but it should be noted that sometimes there is a scarcity of freshwater.

The Popular Beaches of Agathonisi

Agathonisi may not be ideal for families, but it is perfect for adventurers looking for relaxation and fun on isolated beaches. Its coasts are rich in hidden coves and beaches to enjoy in complete seclusion. These places have no amenities or services available, but they also never experience crowds. The waters are quite warm in the summertime, averaging around 75F (24C) from late June to early September. Visitors should bring along sturdy shoes, as the shores can be quite rocky.

The most popular shore is Poros Beach. Located on the eastern side of the island, it is a beautiful pebbly stretch set deep in a long, narrow bay. The calm and shallow waters make it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Guests should make sure to pack a picnic and spend a peaceful day amidst nature.

Things to Do

The picturesque port of Agios Georgios is a charming place to dock and explore. Here, visitors will find a small fisherman's village with quaint tavernas and traditional Greek cafes.

2. Hiking and Nature Walks

Visitors can explore the island's walking trails, which lead through unique landscapes and charming traditional churches, with many breathtaking views from the hilltops. One of the most popular destinations is the chapel of Agios Panteleimonas located about 100 meters above the village of Mikro Chorio.
