The enchanting island of Tilos is a hidden gem floating in the Aegean Sea, and within its sunkissed hills hides Mikro Chorio, a deserted village between Livadia and Megalo Chorio, the capital of Tilos. Mikro Chorio, which translates to "small village" in Greek, is an ancient settlement that was once the main village of Tilos. Nestled amidst rocky hills, this mesmerizing location lies completely abandoned, boasting authentic remnants of its past with picturesque ruins, stone houses, and narrow, winding streets that inspire an otherworldly charm. The village stands as a testament to the island's timeless allure.

Anchorage Info

To enjoy the abandoned ruins of Mikro Chorio, yachtsmen should moor at the Tilos Marina in nearby Livadia, only a 10-minute car ride away. One of the most yacht-friendly Greek harbors in the Aegean, Livadia provides an excellent anchorage point to admire the wonders of Tilos. The bay offers safe mooring, is shielded from winds, and is well-suited for yachts of all sizes. No anchoring is permitted in the harbor unless the quay is full. Yachts go bow or stern to the quay as directed by the harbor master. Water and electricity services are available at all berths. Livadia gets very busy in July and August, so it is suggested to arrive early. While in town, visitors should also check out the serene Livadia Beach.

Enjoy Mikro Chorio

Step back in time by exploring the ancient ruins scattered throughout Mikro Chorio. Around the year 1940, the village was gradually abandoned, and today, only the ruins of impressive buildings and stone houses can be seen. Visitors can discover the remnants of a 14th-century castle built by the Knights of Saint John, Byzantine churches, and traditional stone houses that whisper stories of a bygone era. Wander through the narrow streets, capturing glimpses of the past while admiring the breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea.

Adventurous types can even lace up their hiking boots and embark on the mesmerizing Livadia-Mikro Chorio Trail, which takes about 40 minutes. This scenic path leads from the harbor through dramatic landscapes, allowing visitors to experience the island's natural beauty up close. Traverse rugged cliffs and aromatic herb fields, and embrace panoramic views of the pristine surroundings of Tilos.

Though the village is abandoned, there is a small bar that operates seasonally during the summer. It is a great place to enjoy a drink and admire the beauty of Mikro Chorio.
