It is steeped in traditions and legends, including the notable tradition of offering a broom, believed to be used by Michael to sweep the monastery at night. Failure to fulfill a promise to the Archangel may result in miraculous events that signify his displeasure, such as preventing boats from leaving the dock. Believers also practice the custom of casting messages with prayers into the sea, a time-honored tradition among Greek sailors of the past.

The Venetian-style architecture of the location contains remarkable artifacts, including antique chandeliers and an impressive silver icon of Archangel Michael. The interior is adorned with stunning Byzantine wall paintings that reflect the Christian faith deeply rooted in the local community. Visiting The Monastery Today

Panormitis Monastery of the Archangel Michael is home to a library with a collection of rare Byzantine manuscripts and editions of ecclesiastical, historical, and philological content, while the gallery displays landscape paintings. It also boasts two museums; the first houses a collection of religious items, such as silver icons and ecclesiastical vessels, while the second museum showcases folk culture items related to fishing, agriculture, and shepherding. The monastery's vestry displays sacerdotal vestments, silver works, jewelry, icons, and offerings. On November 8th, the monastery celebrates a religious festival called Feast day of the Monastery of Archangel Michael in Panormitis, which attracts many pilgrims to the island. The occasion is significant for many Symiots who work in other regions, as it provides an opportunity for them to return to their families. During this festival, visitors are encouraged to explore the monastery's guesthouse, which can accommodate up to 500 visitors and is ideal for family reunions.
