Paros Island is a popular summer destination surrounded by the Aegean Sea that offers spectacular vistas from its many bays. Its Mediterranean climate allows visitors to explore and cruise around the island during a long warm and dry season from April to October. It is most frequented during July and August when temperatures are at their highest peak, the skies are clear and a pleasant gentle breeze passes in the evenings. With many picturesque beaches, majestic sea caves and an array of historic monuments to explore, sun cream, sunglasses, suitable water shoes and clothing are recommended. Given that the Meltemi is at its peak during the summer months, many visit during spring and fall to enjoy a calmer atmosphere to explore the islands’ treasures.

Best Time to Visit Paros Island

Paros Island is a frequented destination by visitors from spring to fall given that its temperatures never fall below 52°F (11°C). With the sun visible for more than 12 hours on average a day, its sea tourism picks up as early as April and finishes in October. The busiest months are July and August when the weather is hot, the sea is warm and the island becomes lively. With near to no rainfall and hardly any cloudy days, visitors can enjoy swimming, bay-hopping, water sport activities and partaking in many festivals.  However, the Meltemi winds are the strongest at this point offering a cool ambiance with wavy waters that are good for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Those that are relative beginners to sailing should sail during the shoulder seasons to avoid such winds. In spring and fall, visitors can still hike and explore the islands’ many villages and its pleasantly cooler waters, major historical attractions and culturally themed festivals. 

Weather in Paros Island

Paros Island has a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild winters. It is dry during the months of April to October but peaks with visitors during the summer season of July and August when temperatures exceed 85°F (29°C). During this summer period, the days are long with 14 hours and 45 minutes of sunlight and can see humidity rising to 32%. The prevailing winds from the Meltemi during July and August let off a pleasant breeze leaving novice sailors to cruise during spring and fall. In this shoulder season, the weather is mild but dry with over 12 hours and 30 minutes of sunshine and very little rain. During the winter which lasts from November to March, the weather is relatively cooler with some sunny occurrences and rainfall offering visitors a chance to experience a more authentic side of Paros Island given that most areas are closed.

Before Visiting Paros Island

Paros is most popular for its beautiful beaches and coves, majestic sea caves and many historic landmarks scattered around its island. By hiking around its villages and cruising around its coastline bays during the hot and sunny days, a water bottle and sunblock should be invested in. With some secluded bays having sharp rocky shorelines, water shoes are also recommended. The directness of the sun will require visitors to pack sunglasses alongside a thin jacket for the chilly evenings when a gentle breeze passes by. For those looking to explore the island, comfortable shoes will also be necessary. 

Festivals & Special Days in Paros Island

Paros Island offers an outstanding selection of cultural and religious festivals throughout the year. From June to August, the Park Festival takes place at The Environmental & Cultural Park of Paros with many concerts, theatre performances and summer cinema. During mid-July the Paros Festival offers a three-day multidisciplinary event where music concerts, literature and art exhibitions and many guided tours take place to promote the Paros Islands' cultural heritage. On the 23rd August, the Pirates Festival  in Naoussa creates a historic representation of Barbarossa and the pirates' raids during the mediaeval era followed by fireworks, traditional dancing, feasting until dawn. The Dormition of the Virgin Mary is celebrated by a feast day on the 15th August at Panagia Ekatontapiliani with a litany, local dances and feasting to traditional music. However these are only a small selection of events that take place over the island yearly.
