Finikas Beach

Situated on the enchanting island of Syros in the Cyclades archipelago, Finikas Beach is a hidden gem that promises relaxing experiences for visitors from all walks of life. It is settled along the shores of Finikas, a small village of only 700 inhabitants on the southwest coast of the island, about 11 kilometers from the town of Ermoupoli. The waters are also fairly shallow and safe for young swimmers, and they are generally a pleasant temperature. The period with the warmest waters lasts from late June to early October, with an average temperature of 72°F (22°C), and the month with the warmest water is August.

The shores of Finikas beach are pleasantly sandy with a few pebbles. The sand gets quite hot after midday so sea shoes are recommended. During the peak tourism season from July to August, the beach can get crowded by the afternoon, so it's recommended to go earlier in the day if one wishes to have a more tranquil experience. There are plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas for hire, as well as space for visitors to set up their own equipment. Additionally, the beach is surrounded by local cafes and tavernas, for those who wish to enjoy local snacks and drinks.

While Finikas Beach itself is a captivating spot, the surrounding area offers even more attractions for visitors. The village of Finikas sits just a short walking distance from the beach and provides a glimpse into authentic Greek lifestyle and culture. Finikas, also sometimes spelled as ‘Foinikas,’ got its name from the ancient port of the Phoenicians that was established at modern-day Finikas Harbor. While in the area, travelers can also visit historic sites like the Church of Agios Panteleimonas and explore the town’s charming narrow streets lined with traditional white-washed houses and shop for unique handicrafts.
