Discover History and Wonderful Sights Within Kemer

Kemer is a seaside resort that is located west of the city of Antalya. The coast has typical Mediterranean weather, with hot, dry days and a warm sea. Until the early 1980s, this was a quiet rural district, but today the town of Kemer and coastal villages in the district play a very important part in tourism in Turkey. Tour members will depart at 4:00 pm. from Kemer. It is surrounded by the beautiful turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea, and there is plenty to see and do in this part of the country, including visiting popular sites, exploring historical attractions, shopping venues, and relaxing destinations. The route will also include pleasing swimming spots and beaches that are located within the area, all home to crystal-clear waters and perfect natural landscapes for all to admire.

Today will be a day of exploring and refreshing swimming spots. We will start our day in the town of Kumluca, which is located 90 kilometers west of the city of Antalya and lies on the Teke Peninsula. It is situated close to Olympos, which is another very popular holiday destination. Kumluca is known for its sandy soil that is good for growing watermelons and its spectacular scenery. Our next stop for today will be Olympos Ancient City, where historic ruins from the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods have survived to the present day. Tour members can explore the site and delve into its history. After exploring, the tour will guide us to Adrasan, also known as Cavus Bay. The bay lies within the 2.5-kilometer stretch of coastline where there are many sandy and shingle beaches to enjoy and villages to explore.

The day will start with a visit to Cayagzi Bay, which is home to a beach that is located in an urban area, among the mountains. It is a tiny, several-bay coastline with golden sand and crystal-clear waters, perfect for a relaxing morning of sunbathing and swimming or snorkeling. The next part of our journey for today will guide us to Demre, also known as the Lycian town of Myra, which was once the home of Saint Nicholas of Myra and is well known for its production of olive oil. Abandoned Greek houses can be seen along with magnificent rock tombs. The region is popular with tourists today, particularly Christian pilgrims who visit the tomb of Saint Nicholas. Gokkaya Bay, which has a beach and a deep blue, sparkling sea, will be our final stop for the day. It's very popular with blue cruise boats as historical, cultural, and natural beauties all intertwine. Water sports are available for our more daring tour members. The sea is cooler than in other bays within the region, as there are cold-water springs, perfect for a refreshing evening swim.

Following the coastline southwestwards, we will head to Kekova, which is known for its uninhabited island and is home to the Sunken City and its magnificent ruins. Our tour will continue by visiting Tersane Island which is the largest island in Fethiye Bay. In the days of the Ottoman Empire, the Greeks lived here but after their deportation there were only a few old houses and a church that remained, of which some can be seen today. It is a shallow cove that can seem like a lake on the island. In the north-west of the island, there is Tasyaka Bay, where the artist Bedri Rahmi painted a fish picture on one of the rocks. Our final stop for today will be Ucagiz Village, which is a small village found in Demre County. Built on the coast, Ucagiz was known as Theimeussa in ancient times. Sitting on a natural harbor, Theimeussa’s history isn’t known in detail, but the city was once one of the cities that created the Lycian League. Tour members will be greeted by ancient cities buried in the water, crystal-clear bays, and bright green islands rising out of the sea like emeralds.

First on the agenda for today will be exploring the fantastic ancient city of Simena. It was once a small Lycian coastal city but today it is known as Kalekoy, one of the rare settlements in Turkey that can only be reached by boat. Tour members can explore a 300-seat theater, temples, and Lycian tombs. A short hike away, old stone houses can be seen scattered up the hillside leading to the ruins of Simena Castle. The origins of the castle date back to the Roman and Byzantine periods. It is said to have been built by the Knights of Rhodes to fend off pirates who threatened to invade the area. Although the fortress walls are the most prominent feature of the castle, a small theater can also be found within the ruins, adding to its Lycian history. As well as the castle ruins, a nearby cemetery further along the hill is also worth a visit. This ancient necropolis is home to numerous interesting towering Lycian sarcophagi, which are situated along the hillside with panoramic views that are truly breathtaking.

We will start our day by enjoying the wonderful sights of the wide open bay of Porto Ceneviz, where the rocks rise out of the sea almost horizontally, giving the bay a protected feel. The sea here is calm, and the waters are warm. Porto Ceneviz is within the Antalya district, and just a short way up the coast is the historical and magical ancient city of Olympos. Our next stop for today will be Sazak Bay, which is one of the few remaining uncommercialized large sandy bays in the coastal region and is ideal for a relaxing afternoon and a refreshing swim. Our journey will then guide us to Phaselis Bay and Phaselis Ancient City. The location will provide true natural beauty where historical ruins are waiting for tour members to discover. Phaselis was once one of the most important cities of the Lycian League. The Roman ruins are well preserved, and many things can be seen, such as protection walls, Hadrian's Arch, Roman baths, mosaics, and a theater.

Tour members can today discover Alacasu Bay, which is surrounded by a National Park and pine forests. The bay is a first-degree protected area that brings visitors together in a unique atmosphere while witnessing magnificent views. It is one of the rarest beauties in Kemer and one of the most preferred beaches by nature lovers, with its 175-meter beach and walking paths. Tour members can swim in the clean, glass like waters of the island, which has a calm, spacious, and peaceful environment. The deep blue sea integrates with the lush forest, and guests can sunbathe on the fine sandy beach. Our final stop for today will be Ayisigi Bay, one of the most beautiful bays in the Kemer district, full of pine, palm, and eucalyptus trees. It is in the shape of a crescent, with clean, warm waters and fine, golden-yellow sands.

On the final day of the tour, we will depart from the upmarket seaside resort of Kemer at 9:00 am. and visit Kemer Local Market. It sells everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to spices, sweets, and locally made Turkish delight. The market is situated near the marina and Moonlight Beach, where clothing such as t-shirts, jackets, trousers, and shoes can be purchased featuring a variety of brands. There are also quite a few small stalls selling local crafts and souvenirs, which are ideal if you’re looking for something special to give to family and friends back home.
