Popular Yacht Charter

Once known as Oenoe, the Island of Wine, in ancient Greece, Sikinos is an idyllic Greek island in the Cyclades that remains relatively untouched by mass tourism. Nestled between the popular islands of Ios and Folegandros, this stunning locale offers a serene experience for those seeking tranquility and exploration.

Today, the main port, Allopronia, sits on the south side, and the main town of Chora is high up in the hills. Chora is made up of two settlements: Castro to the west and Chorio to the east. Its main town and small villages feature an authentic Cycladic style, and its wild beaches have a relaxing atmosphere. With its natural beauty, rich history, and warm hospitality, Sikinos guarantees an unforgettable adventure.

Beaches and Beach Conditions

Sikinos offers a variety of tranquil beaches perfect for unwinding and enjoying the Greek sunshine. Revel in the peacefulness of the secluded beaches of Dialiskari and Malta, accessible only by boat, or visit the sandy haven of Alopronia, a popular spot for yachts to drop anchor with many seaside taverns. Another beloved secluded beach is Agios Georgios, which has pebbly shores and a charming Greek Orthodox church in the background. There are many unnamed coves around the island that can be explored as well.

The turquoise waters surrounding the island are ideal for snorkeling, swimming, and diving, allowing visitors to discover the vibrant marine life below. From late June to early October, the local waters are at their warmest, with an average temperature above 72°F (22°C). Many of the beaches are pebbly, so visitors may want to wear sea shoes for safety. Aside from the beaches in the main harbor, the secluded coves of the island are predominantly unorganized, so visitors will have to bring their own supplies and take extra precautions for children.

Other Things to Do

Though a small, remote island, Sikinos offers plenty to do aside from visiting its beautiful, secluded beaches. First, the island is steeped in ancient history, boasting picturesque Byzantine ruins and remnants of the island's past. Visitors can explore the Kastro, a medieval citadel, and the ancient site of Episkopi, an early Christian basilica with beautifully preserved mosaic floors. Secondly, the island boasts an array of scenic trails that showcase the area’s natural beauty and are perfect for hiking and photography. Finally, the island has many traditional tavernas that serve local delicacies, including fresh seafood, cheeses, and locally grown fruits and vegetables. Don't miss the opportunity to sample the island's renowned wine, as Sikinos has a long winemaking tradition.
