With its numerous bays boasting clear waters and golden sand beaches, the island is a haven for yachting enthusiasts. The island experiences a Mediterranean climate, with August being the hottest month with temperatures averaging around 82°F (28°C). May, June, July, August, and September are the driest months, with almost no chance of precipitation. June and July are the busiest months on the island, with water temperatures averaging around 80°F (27°C). Meltemi winds from the northwest and north are prevalent on Syros Island, similar to other Aegean Sea islands. In August, boaters should be wary of strong breezes.

Yachtsmen can also explore diving spots such as the HMHS Britannic wreck near Kea island and the remains of 4th century amphora. Syros Marina, located in the central town of Syros, Ermoupolis, is well-protected, but boaters need to be careful as it can get quite wavy. Ermoupolis is the hub of the island's amenities, offering a wide range of restaurants and shops. Finikas Marina, situated in a large bay in the southwest of Syros, is well-protected from all winds, making it an ideal spot for boaters.

Unique Bays of Syros Island

The island also boasts several stunning bays, all suitable for anchoring and exploring. Galissas Bay, located in the southwest of the island, is well-protected from Meltemi but can get slightly wavy. Aetou Bay, anchorage 3.5 m to the south, is well-protected from the breeze but can get slightly wavy. Delfino Bay, with a small islet in the middle, offers excellent protection from the breeze but can be windy. Varis Bay, a beautiful and indented bay with a sandy beach on the southeast coast of Syros, is sheltered from the wind, making it a popular spot for families to visit. Visitors are advised to bring sea shoes, as many of the island's beaches are pebbly and some of the most beautiful bays have rocky bottoms.
