Tivat

Tivat is a small coastal town in southwest Montenegro located in the UNESCO heritage site of Kotor Bay. In recent years Tivat has undergone major redevelopment, the town’s 24-hectare former Arsenal shipyard and the naval base are now a prosperous resort within the town, aiming mainly for the nautical tourism sector. The new prestigious Porto Montenegro contains luxury accommodations, restaurants and shops with well-landscaped gardens and is fully pedestrianized, making the area safe and enjoyable for children and adults.

Water and Anchoring Conditions

The mountainous landscapes provide a magnificent setting for a sailing trip through the narrow bay of Kotor. The Porto Montenegro is a luxury yacht marina in Tivat and the first state-of-the-art deep-water marina in the Adriatic Sea. There are 461 secure mooring berths ranging from 12 meters to 150 meters, within the complex is a chic beach club called Purobeach, and adjacent is the smaller marina Porto with 30 mooring berths. There are popular anchorage sites at Tivat and the bay of Sehanova, with very good holding in the muddy seabed with water depths of 6 to 13 meters. 

Popular Beaches

Situated 500 meters from the town center lies Belane Beach, the beach has gray fine pebbles leading into the warm calm turquoise waters, due to the terrain visitors may require sea shoes. There are sunbeds and umbrellas available for visitors wanting a shaded area away from the hot sun rays. The beach is very popular during the summer months and becomes crowded during peak months. The tourism season in Tivat starts in May and ends in October, with peak months being August and September. Temperatures reach highs of 88°F (31°C), and sea temperatures rise to 79°F (26°C) during July and August. 

Visiting Tivat

The Buca-Ludovic Museum and Gallery are housed in a 500-year-old fortified enclosure with a Catholic Chapel, which was once the summer residence of Kotor’s Buca family. The museum’s collection includes Roman relics, an ethnographic section with fishing and farming artifacts, beautiful jewelry, and folk costumes. The Gallery hosts exhibitions of modern art and sculpture. Porto Montenegro Naval Heritage Museum honors Tivat’s rich maritime history, housed in an attractively restored 19th-century saw mill, displaying 300 artifacts including rare Austro-Hungarian naval equipment and two authentic Yugoslav submarines. The museum is located at the north end of Porto Montenegro village, next to a nautical themed-playground, a perfect place for young children to enjoy.  The Town Promenade located on the seafront is a 3-kilometer-long promenade and the most beautiful part of Tivat, lined with palm trees and beautiful landscapes. Many local people visit this location to socialize, stroll and relax in the beautiful cafes and restaurants that overlook the stunning bay.

Nightlife

A section of Tivat nightlife centers around the new and modern Porto Montenegro, one of the most beautiful marinas in Boka bay, the stunning marina is home to a range of inviting and high-quality bars and clubs with Crush Wine Station and The Notorious Club Premium being two of the most popular. Away from the marina in downtown Tivat is a small and wonderful gastropub. The Black Sheep is famous for its craft beer and cocktails, live music, and DJs, there are also some bars who cater for sports fans showing international football and rugby matches on big screen televisions.
