Magical Villages and Thriving Towns on the Island of Kefalonia

Kefalonia Island is geographically positioned in the heart of the Ionian Sea, inspiring many tourists and even film producers due to its abundance of beauty and natural treasures. The island is well known due to its presence in the movie Captain Corelli’s Mandolin along with being one of the most photographed places within Greece. Kefalonia Island is the largest in the Ionian Sea, showcasing a spectacular landscape, exotic beaches, charming villages, and mysterious caves. The tour will depart from Aghia Eufimia Marina at 4:00 pm. Tour participants have an exciting journey ahead as we will visit some of the most outstanding locations within Greece, from cosmopolitan towns to authentic and unique Greek villages.

Today's journey will lead us from Kefalonia Island to Fiskardo. Fiskardo is a unique car-free fishing village, surrounded by thriving cypresses and olive trees. The village has its own port and marina where many taverns, bars, and shops can be found. Although this area has a cosmopolitan vibe, there are some interesting historical sites to visit, such as the Venetian Lighthouse, the Roman Cemetery, and the Nautical and Environmental Museum, where the skeletons of several marine mammals can be seen. As for its beaches, the most popular include Foki and Emplisi. Foki Beach is situated in a small cove enclosed by thriving greenery, pebbled textures and deep blue waters. Emplisi Beach has a more tranquil atmosphere due to its secluded location. The beach is made up of rocks and white pebbles with lots of natural shade and pristine waters that are perfect for snorkeling.

Today's tour will take us from Fiskardho to Assos. Assos is a tiny, magical village that lies approximately 36 kilometers away from the capital of Kefalonia. The hidden and picturesque location provides a relaxing environment with rich historical significance. Situated on a hill on the Erissos peninsula, this unique place showcases magnificent architecture and spectacular natural surroundings. The main historical attraction is the Assos Castle, constructed by the Venetians, who ruled over the Eptanisa islands during the 13th to 18th centuries. There are two beaches that can be found on the coastline, both offering clear waters, pebbled terrain, and wonderful views of the bay.

Today's tour will guide us from Assos to Argostoli. The capital town of Argostoli provides beautiful scenery, rich historical sites, and cultural landmarks, all of which are surrounded by wonderful hills. Here Kefalonia's biggest shipping port and many smaller villages such as Razata, Farsa, Prokopata, Kompothekrata can be found. Another interesting natural wonder to explore is the Koutavos Lagoon, surrounded by deep-green vegetation and eucalyptus trees. Tour members will have the opportunity to visit popular sights such as De Bosset Bridge, also known as Devosetos Bridge, that connects Argostoli to the opposite side of Argostoli Bayan, and English Cemetery. Along with the well-known Cobble Street, Kampana (Bell) Square, and the Lighthouse of Saint Theodoroi. As for beaches, the wonderful beaches of Platis Gialos, Makris Gialos, and Gradakia are popular choices due to their sandy shores and pristine waters.

Today we will travel from Argostoli to Poros Island. Poros Island sits in the heart of the Saronic Gulf. This little Aegean gem is easily accessible by boat and is a popular destination for a weekend break. The thriving vegetation, signature Clock Tower landmark, lovely beaches, and quaint villages make this island a wonderful place to visit. In the center of the island, there are many taverns, restaurants, and relaxing venues to enjoy. There may not be a huge amount of choice in regards to beaches, but the beach areas on the island portray quality. Askeli, Love Bay, and Neorio are the most popular; however, tour members can also find more secluded bay areas around the island’s coastline.

Today's adventure will take us from Poros Island to Sami. Sami is a picturesque coastal town with approximately 1000 permanent residents. It is located close to the ancient Sami, which is one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Kefalonia. Agriculture and fishing are the area's main sources of income; however, the island's port is also located here, attracting many visitors during the summer months. The town is surrounded by large green hills and magical coves, providing a delightful area for swimming in crystal-clear waters. Here, tour members can enjoy a thriving waterfront with paved streets and Venetian buildings, as well as shops, cafes, and a variety of restaurants. There are many popular attractions to explore here, such as the Agrilion Monastery, the Nautical Museum of Sami, along with magical caves, and wonderful beaches.

We will now travel from Sami to Aghia Eufimia. The stunning fishing village lies on the eastern coast of Kefalonia. Although the main source of income here comes from agriculture and fishing, during the summer months, the area is a popular tourist destination. Here, tour members can enjoy a lovely waterfront area, taverns, souvenir shops, and famous franchise ice-cream stalls. In regards to beaches, there are several secluded seashores to choose from, including Lithovatis Beach, Sikidi Bay, and Kapsolimionas Beach. Today's tour will conclude at Aghia Eufimia Marina, where tour members can soak up the culture of this wonderful area, take a leisurely stroll and indulge in local cuisine.

On the final day of the tour, we will travel from Aghia Eufimia to Kefalonia Island. Our adventure will conclude at Kefalonia Island, the jewel of the Ionian Sea. Tour members can explore this postcard-worthy area in more detail by visiting magical caves, admiring the wonderful mountains, indulging in local cuisine, exploring historical sites, and visiting authentic Greek villages. The island's lively nightlife and spectacular beaches such as Myrtos, Antisamos, Lourdas, and Skala are sure to make you fall in love with this destination if you haven't already.
