Natural Wonders and Interesting Tourist Attractions Within Greece

Kefalonia Island is geographically positioned in the heart of the Ionian Sea, welcoming many tourists and even film producers due to its abundance of beauty and natural treasures. The island is well known for its presence in the movie Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, as well as being one of the most photographed places in Greece. Kefalonia Island is the largest in the Ionian Sea, showcasing a spectacular landscape, exotic beaches, charming villages, and mysterious caves. The tour will depart from Agia Eufimia Marina at 4:00 p.m. Tour participants have an exciting journey ahead as we will visit some of the most outstanding locations within Greece, from cosmopolitan towns to authentic and unique Greek villages.

Today we will travel from Kefalonia Island to Poros Island. Poros Island sits in the heart of the Saronic Gulf. This Aegean gem is easily accessible by boat and is a popular destination for a weekend break. The thriving vegetation, a signature Clock Tower landmark, lovely beaches, and quaint villages make this island a wonderful area to visit. In the center of the island, there are many taverns, restaurants, and relaxing venues to enjoy. There may not be a huge amount of choice in regards to beaches, but the beach areas on the island portray quality. Askeli, Love Bay, and Neorio are the most popular; however, tour members can also find more secluded bay areas around the island’s coastline.

Today's journey will guide us from Poros Island to Katakolon. Katakolon is a picturesque coastal town, completely untouched, with only three main streets and a wonderful bay area. While exploring, tour members can admire the modern Harbour, where pastel-coloured neoclassical buildings, taverns, and coffee shops can all be seen, along with large forests thriving with pine and cypress trees. Although the destination may be small, there are several unique attractions to discover. Ancient Olympia is the most famous place to visit. It is the birthplace of the Olympic Games, and one of the most important cities of antiquity. Here, tour members can see ruins of the Temple of Hera, the athletic stadium, and the Archaeological Museum of Olympia. Tour participants will also have the opportunity to visit the Katakolo Ancient Greek Museum of Technology. This museum delves into technology developed by the ancient Greeks. Featuring working models that consist of nuts, bolts, gears, and pulleys used to construct large structures. Other attractions within this coastal town include the Lighthouse of Katakolon, Kourouta Beach, St. Nicholas Church, Kremasti Monastery, and the Katakolon Fun Train.

We will now sail from Katakolon to Zakynthos Island. Zakynthos Island is known for its striking sandy beaches and pristine waters. Also known as Zante, tour members will have the opportunity to enjoy many interesting beaches here, such as Navagio Beach, where the remains of a smuggler’s shipwreck can be seen, and Xigia Beach, which has waters containing a large amount of sulfur, said to be healthy for the skin. Porto Limnionas Beach, which is known for its magical caves, and Kalamaki Beach, which is characterized by impressive rock formations. Other spectacular shores within Zakynthos include Laganas Beach, Gerakas Beach, and Spiantz Beach. The capital of the island, Zakynthos Town, has many historic attractions for tour members to visit, such as Saint Mark Square, the Venetian Castle, Solomos Square, Agios Dionyssios Church, the ruins of the Venetian Bridge, and Keri Lighthouse.

Today we will be traveling from Zakynthos Island to Agios Nikolaos. Agios Nikolaos is the capital town of Lassithi, with its crown jewel being the bottomless salt lake of Voulismeni. The narrow channel of water that connects the lake to the sea and its surrounding scenery of red rocks and lush trees is also just as impressive. The city has many interesting archaeological sites on offer, along with natural history museums, Byzantine churches, a well-organized marina, well-decorated pedestrian streets, authentic villages, and traditional squares with many lively cafes and restaurants to enjoy.

Today's adventure will lead us from Agios Nikolaos to Sami. Sami is a picturesque coastal town with approximately 1,000 permanent residents. It is located close to the ancient Sami, which is one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Kefalonia. Agriculture and fishing are the area's main sources of income; however, the island's port is also located here, attracting many visitors during the summer months. The town is surrounded by large green hills and magical coves, providing a delightful area for swimming in crystal-clear waters. Here, tour members can enjoy a thriving waterfront with paved streets and Venetian buildings, as well as shops, cafes, and a variety of restaurants. There are many popular tourist attractions to explore here, such as the Agrilion Monastery and the Nautical Museum of Sami, along with several magical caves and wonderful beaches.

Today's journey will take us from Sami to Kefalonia Island. This scenic island is not as crowded as some of the other Greek islands that we have visited. The most popular attraction to visit here is the Melissani Lake and Cave. This breathtaking underground lake has an open natural ceiling that lights up the turquoise waters below. Also known as the Cave of the Nymphs, tour members can participate in a short paddle boat tour around the lake, admiring magnificent shades of blue and green. Other places to visit include Assos, a little seaside village in northern Kefalonia; Fiskardo, a historic harbor town on the northern side of Kefalonia island; and wonderful beaches, including Petani Beach and Myrtos Beach. Today's tour will conclude at Agia Eufimia Marina, which is the perfect place to visit in terms of Greek culture. Here, tour members can take a leisurely stroll, indulge in local cuisine, explore many souvenir shops, and visit interesting sights such as the caves of Drogarati.

On the final day of the tour, we will travel to Kefalonia Island, where our adventure will conclude. Tour members can explore this postcard-worthy area in more detail by visiting magical caves, admiring the wonderful mountains, indulging in local cuisine, exploring historical sites, and visiting authentic Greek villages. Kefalonia Island’s lively nightlife and spectacular beaches such as Myrtos, Antisamos, Lourdas, and Skala are sure to make any traveler fall in love with this jewel of the Ionian Sea.
