Anchorage Information
Port Atheni boasts a well-protected anchorage, providing a safe haven for yachts of various sizes. The bay’s entrance is located on the northeastern coast of Meganissi Island, offering a peaceful environment surrounded by olive trees and crystal-clear waters.
There is a small harbor at the south end with a quay accommodating 10–12 vessels. Visiting yachts can also berth at the taverna's pontoons or on the north and south sides of the inlet. It is well protected from all but strong northeastern winds. Essential services are available from the cafe or taverna in the inlet. Though it’s a very popular bay for visiting yachts, it is rarely crowded.
Things to Do
There are many ways to enjoy Port Atheni, but first and foremost, it is a place to relax and unwind. The naturally protected bay offers a peaceful retreat, allowing visitors to relax on their boats, read a book, enjoy a siesta, or simply embrace the tranquility of the area.
There are particularly clear waters on the west side of the cove, making it a great place to swim and snorkel. The sea temperature is pleasantly warm, averaging around 77°F (25°C) during the summer. However, there is no beach to speak of or any shallows, so children and weak swimmers should be carefully watched if entering the water. Visitors with their own equipment can also engage in various water activities such as paddleboarding, kayaking, and fishing.
For adventurous types, hiking and exploration are popular activities here as well. Port Atheni is encompassed by lush vegetation and olive groves, and the nearby hills offer beautiful hiking trails, perfect for exploring the island's scenic beauty on foot. Just a 30-minute walk away is the traditional Ionian village of Katomeri, offering a taste of authentic Greek culture.
